RUNWAY: Givenchy SS15

Riccardo Tisci's army of militia men wore do-rags during the Italian designer's Spring/Summer 2015 collection for Givenchy as if saying these men are street-wise and strong. After last season's basketball themed collection, Tisci aimed to create a starker, tailor-focused collection. The black suiting in the beginning bore little what we've come to expect from Givenchy, there was nary a print to be seen. That's not to say they weren't excellently cut, masculine silhouettes reigned supreme while slim trousers accentuated trim but muscular frames.

There were some floral elements, like a floral wreath on the crest of a shirt and ink-blot type patterns, tame for Givenchy's standards. The end of the show offered a barrage of floral embellishments, with pearl accents. These masculine meets feminine looks paraded down the runway and were seen sewn onto sheer tops over tanks. Tailored pants kept the looks macho and juxtaposed well with the more feminine aspects. It wasn't a new vision for Givenchy but a more off-the-runway wearable one, continuing the trend of preferring retail-friendly clothes to one-of-a-kind show stoppers seen only on the boldest editors or in magazine stories.
